St. Patrick’s Day Safety and Beyond

St. Patrick’s Day Safety and Beyond

If you look forward to wearing a shamrock necklace, drinking green beer, and celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with your friends every March 17th, keep in mind that the best way to ensure you have fun is to have a solid plan for the night. Don’t count on luck to keep you safe, even on St. Patrick’s Day.

While St Patty’s is a fun holiday, it has morphed from a religious festival into one of the biggest drinking days of the year. St. Patty’s, and every other drinking holiday, open the door for a lot of potential injuries because of increased traffic and intoxicated-related accidents.

So to keep you safe, here are some suggestions for when you go out on the town.

Safety Tips for Drinking Holidays & Other Celebrations

St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, and Spring Break are when many people let loose, get tipsy, and have fun. That also means there is a high probability of drunk drivers on the road. You don’t want to be one (or get hit by one), so remember to:

  • Have a safe route for getting home. Make sure you have a sober designated driver or another way of getting home, like a taxi or an Uber. You do not want to get behind the wheel while intoxicated and risk hurting yourself or someone else, or take a chance at getting a DUI.
  • If you’re on the road and you see an impaired driver, call NYPD. Keep your distance from that vehicle.
  • Be mindful or slippery surfaces where you can slip and fall. There are plenty of dangers inside the bar or at a house party, and trip hazards are one of them.
  • Leave your valuables at home. Anything of importance that you do not want to risk being stolen or lost should be kept in the safety of your home.
  • If you’re drinking through the night, make sure to eat well and stay hydrated. Drinking water with or in-between your drinks can ensure that you won’t get too incapacitated.
  • Do not leave your drinks unattended. Keep your drink with you at all times, and don’t take an open drink from a stranger.

We urge you to follow the tips above to help make the holidays safer for you and your loved ones. There’s only so much we all can do to prevent accidents. If an accident unfortunately does happen to you during St. Patrick’s Day festivities or other celebration, The Case Handler team is here for you.
