What Happened?
On April 30, 2025, the walk signal turned on, so Kim began crossing the street at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Van Horn Street in Queens, New York. While she was in the crosswalk, an SUV made a right turn at the intersection, failed to see her, and struck her left side. Her lower body became pinned under the hood of the vehicle until firefighters were able to free her.
The driver later told police that he had a green light and therefore didn’t take precaution before turning because he believed he had the right of way. Officers immediately clarified that drivers must always clear the intersection for pedestrians before making a turn - regardless of the traffic signal. Kim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where she was evaluated and admitted for further treatment.
As a result of the accident, Kim suffered injuries to her neck, left leg, and back. She was unable to walk for some following the incident. She sustained abrasions to her left knee and ankle with swelling and ecchymosis. She also experienced low back pain that radiated down her lower extremities, along with road rash on the right side of her back. During her hospital stay, it was revealed that she had fractured her spine in multiple locations. Kim underwent medical treatment for her fractures and was able to return home about a week after the accident.
Kim’s Queens Hit Pedestrian Hit Lawyer
While Kim was still in the hospital, her daughter heard about our team and reached out to see if we could help. As the police made clear, it does not matter if a driver has a green light - no one can make a sudden turn through an intersection and disregard the safety of pedestrians. Kim endured excruciating pain and was the victim of reckless driving, so our Queens pedestrian hit lawyer filed against the defendant on June 12, 2025. The SAME DAY we filed, the defendant’s insurance company offered full policy limits of $300,000 - only 43 days after the accident!
