What Happened?
On September 10th, 2021, Akeem was a restrained front-seat passenger in a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Belt Parkway near the exit to 150th Street / Rockaway Blvd. The vehicle Akeem was in slowed down to traffic when the car was suddenly rear-ended by another vehicle that was also rear-ended by a third car! As a result, the car Akeem was in sustained two impacts. He was treated for his injuries at the accident scene by EMS and was taken by ambulance to a Queens hospital where he was evaluated, treated, and later discharged home.
Akeem injured his neck, back, shoulders, right elbow, left forearm, and left ankle due to the accident. He experienced persistent neck pain that was associated with numbness and weakness in his arms and left hand. His back pain was associated with numbness, tingling, and weakness in his left leg and foot. Akeem attended physical therapy, underwent pain management injections, and had lower back surgery (lumbar discectomy at level L5/S1) on August 16, 2022. He was totally disabled for approximately 14 weeks.
