What Happened?
It was early in the morning on January 26, 2025. Dustin was riding southbound in the backseat of a hired rideshare vehicle in the left lane when another car ahead stopped suddenly on the Bronx River Parkway in Bronx, New York. The rideshare driver didn’t have enough time to stop and rear-ended the vehicle in front.
The driver of the other car later told police that she was feeling sick and attempted to pull over to the left side of the highway, near the fast lane, when she was rear-ended. The airbags in the rideshare vehicle deployed, and Dustin recalled feeling confused since everything happened so fast–he had been talking on the phone right before the crash. Dustin was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was evaluated, treated, and released the same day with pain medication.
As a result of the collision, Dustin suffered injuries to his left rib cage, neck, lower back, and left shoulder. He experienced diffuse pain extending from the left side of his neck down to his left rib cage and lower back. Prolonged sitting and standing made his pain worse. The most significant pain was in his left shoulder, where he had difficulty lifting objects and experienced numbness in his left arm and hand. When conservative pain management failed to improve his condition, Dustin underwent injections, lower back and neck discectomies in March 2025, and left shoulder surgery in May 2025.
