What Happened?
On April 11th, 2023, Ms. Clarke was traveling northbound on East Patchogue Yaphank Road near the intersection of National Boulevard in Brookhaven, New York. Since the light was green, Ms. Clarke began driving through the intersection when a vehicle traveling eastbound (from her left side) ran a red light and crossed right in front of Ms. Clarke’s vehicle! Her airbags did not deploy and she hit her head on the doorframe. After hitting her vehicle, the other driver also struck another nearby vehicle that was stopped at a red light. Ms. Clarke was taken by ambulance to the emergency room at Long Island Community Hospital where she was evaluated, treated, and discharged home the same day with a prescription for pain medication.
Ms. Clarke injured her neck, left clavicle/left shoulder, lower back, and bilateral knee due to the accident. She complained of neck pain with radiation to the shoulders that was aggravated by head rotation and pain in the area of the left clavicle and left shoulder. Ms. Clarke also suffered lower back pain with intermittent numbness and tingling in both legs, and moderate pain in both knees that was aggravated by prolonged standing and walking. Diagnostic studies revealed disc herniations and multiple disc bulges. Ms. Clarke attended physical therapy for months and underwent a pain management injection to her lower back.
