- Shakira from New York, NY
What Happened?
On May 13, 2024, just after Mother’s Day, Shakira was driving straight on East New York Avenue near the intersection of Schenectady Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, when another driver recklessly sped through a red light and struck the front passenger’s side of her vehicle. The impact caused her car to spin. She was evaluated by EMS at the scene but did not immediately go to the emergency room. As her pain worsened, Shakira visited the emergency room at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, where she was evaluated, treated, and released.
As a result of the accident, Shakira sustained injuries to her neck, shoulders, and lower back. She reported persistent neck pain accompanied by numbness and tingling in her right arm and hand. She also experienced lower back pain with similar symptoms in her legs. Her right shoulder pain, described as “shocking,” became increasingly severe. After minimally invasive pain management failed to relieve her discomfort, Shakira underwent right shoulder surgery for a full rotator cuff tear in September 2024. She was unable to work for over three months.
Shakira’s Settlement With Our Brooklyn Red Light Accident Lawyer
Having had a great experience with our team on a previous case, Shakira knew exactly who to call. The very next day after the accident, she contacted The Case Handler team! The other driver told the police that they had “a steady green light” and claimed Shakira hit them. To make matters worse, the defendant’s insurance company – coincidentally the same company as Shakira’s – initially offered just $5,000 two months after the crash, and later raised the offer to $8,000.
Since the insurance company wasn’t willing to pay what Shakira deserved, we prepared to take them to court. And once they realized they’d be going up against our Brooklyn red light accident lawyer, they backed down! We secured a $50,000 settlement from the defendant, got her medical bills covered, and helped her recover her lost wages – all in less than a year, just in time for a better Mother’s Day this year!
