What Happened?
It was Friday, March 22, 2019, and the time was 7:10 am. The morning was cold and 17-year-old Jaime was crossing the street after coming off the bus at the intersection of Dewitt Place and East Gunhill Road in the boogie down Bronx. Little did she know that the events that were about to unfold would be even colder than the day! While crossing East Gun Hill Road, she stopped on the double yellow line to let another car pass. A man driving a 2009 Toyota Sedan from a parked position, made an illegal U-turn and struck Jaime while she was standing on the double yellow line! She saw her life flash before her eyes! She flew onto the driver’s hood and landed on the opposite side of the road. Jamie immediately started to experience excruciating pain on the right side of her body, as well as in her lower back and right knee. The police, ambulance, and fire department all rushed to the scene of the accident and she was expeditiously transported to Jacobi Medical Center emergency room.
From her neck injury, Jamie experienced intermittent headaches and dizziness. In her left shoulder, she experienced pain that was aggravated by heavy lifting and overhead activities. In her lower back, she experienced an agonizing aching sensation. In her right knee, Jaime felt consistent tingling and throbbing sensations. Sometimes her knees would buckle as well. Her pain haunted her like a horrible ghost from an awfully bad nightmare. She would neither get relief from rest nor change her position. Jaime had to undergo surgery: an operative arthroscopy of the right knee with partial medial and lateral meniscectomy, synovectomy, extensive joint debridement and chondroplasty. This was because when she was struck by the driver, she tore the medial and lateral meniscus to the right knee.
A good father gives the best to his children. When this awful tragedy occurred to his young daughter, there was only one person that Jaime’s father trusted – Adam Handler – The Case Handler! Jaime’s father was a previously satisfied client of Adam Handler. Therefore, it was an easy decision for him. He wanted to know that his daughter’s case would be handled with expediency and rigor; and, according to Jaime, The Case Handler team delivered just that. When insurance companies see that the injured person is so young, they will fight aggressively to prove that a young person will heal better than an older person; and refuse to pay the maximum policy amount. Even though she was a minor in the case, The Case Handler team at Pollack, Pollack, Isaac and DeCicco LLP was able to demand and receive the full policy of $25,000.00 from the insurance company!
