In December 2020 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Ahana was walking home from a bus stop. When the walk signal turned on, she began crossing a street in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County. At that same moment, there was a vehicle exiting a McDonald’s parking lot that had a green light. The driver failed to see the back of Ahana walking and struck her left side near the center of the pedestrian crosswalk! Ahana remembered getting hit a couple of times on her left side before losing consciousness. She was taken by ambulance to NYU Winthrop Hospital where she was evaluated, treated, and later released.
As a result of the accident, Ahana suffered multiple injuries to her neck, back, left shoulder, left hand, left knee and left hip. She complained of neck pain with radiation of pain to the left upper extremity, as well as weakness of the left arm and hand. She also experienced mid to low back pain with episodic radiation of pain to the left lower extremity with weakness of the left leg. When minimally invasive treatment and pain management injections no longer helped Ahana, she underwent lower neck surgery (anterior cervical dicectomy C6/7) and left shoulder surgery. She has been totally incapacitated from employment since the accident.
