What Happened?
On October 24th, 2019, Larissa was driving on the far right lane when she was preparing to turn right at the intersection of East 34th Street and the Queens-Midtown Tunnel entrance. While turning, a truck to her left was also turning right. The other driver turned too sharply and did not stay in his own lane, which resulted in him sideswiping the driver’s side of Larissa’s vehicle. According to the police report, the other driver later claimed that Larissa was the one that sideswiped his vehicle while turning! She remembered instantly feeling dizzy and having a headache. The next day, Larissa went to Holy Name Medical Center where she was evaluated, treated, and released home with pain medication.
As a result of the accident, Larissa suffered injuries to her neck and lower back. She had multiple cervical spine and lumbar spine disc herniations and bulges. Sitting was the most uncomfortable position, both for her neck and lower back pain, which grew worse if she were sitting for more than 20 minutes. She attended physical therapy, acupuncture treatments, and chiropractic treatments. When minimally invasive pain management therapy failed to improve Larissa’s injuries, she underwent pain management injections and neck surgery. Approximately 10 years before this accident, Larissa was actually involved in a previous car accident that required her to receive treatment to the neck and lower back. Although her injuries appeared to be similar, Larissa had no significant pain since she finished therapy for the accident she had over a decade ago.
