“Adam Handler is the BEST lawyer in New York City! He treats his clients like family, he is an amazing person, and he kept it real with me. I definitely recommend him to everyone. Thank you so much again, Adam!”
- Francine from Clifton, NJ
What Happened?
On May 29, 2022, Francine was at a hookah lounge in Manhattan when the unthinkable happened. The general manager of the establishment accidentally knocked over an entire hookah set of coals onto her, causing severe burns to her legs and forearm. Instead of helping, the general manager panicked, jumped back, and just stood there without offering assistance. Initially, Francine tried to manage her injuries at home. However, two days later, she went to urgent care, where her burns were evaluated and treated. The medical team informed her that she would need to follow up with a specialist for skin grafting due to the severity of her injuries. After receiving care, Francine was discharged the same day.
Francine suffered significant second-degree burns to both of her legs and her forearm. In total, she had seven burns to her legs and one burn on her forearm. The largest burn measured 4.5 cm, with others ranging from 2-3 cm in diameter. Initially, she was advised to use a topical antibiotic ointment and follow up with the doctor. Unfortunately, about one month later, Francine had to visit the emergency department because one of the burns on her right thigh became a chronic, non-healing burn wound. It took nearly two months for her burns to heal. Sadly, Francine was left with permanent cosmetic scarring and discoloration on her legs.
Francine’s Settlement With Our New York City Hookah Injury Lawyers
Francine knew she was in good hands when her best friend recommended attorney Adam Handler and our team at PPID. She reached out to us just a few weeks after her accident, seeking our help. For nearly two years, the defendant refused to take responsibility, instead blaming Francine for allegedly knocking over the hookah herself. They made no effort to compensate her, leaving our team no choice but to prepare for trial. However, when faced with the prospect of going up against our experienced New York City hookah injury lawyers, the defendant’s insurance company ultimately agreed to settle during mediation. Francine received a $450,000 settlement, providing her with fair compensation for her pain, suffering, and permanent injuries.
