What Happened?
On June 20, 2019, Marcia was driving home from work. While she was driving northbound on 164th Street in Queens, NY, another vehicle was attempting to make a left turn onto 164th Street from a parking lot. The driver claimed to not have seen Marcia approaching while making the turn and struck the driver’s side back door of Marcia’s car. Marcia was taken by taxi to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she was treated and released home with medication.
As a result of the accident, Marcia injured her back and right knee. The pain in her lower back radiated to the right lower extremity with numbness and tingling. She reported the pain worsening with activity and motion such as lifting, bending, sitting, standing and using the stairs. During the accident, Marcia remembered hitting her right knee on the center console. She experienced intermittent sharp pain in the right knee throughout the day and buckling. Marcia was required to attend physical therapy for several weeks and underwent right knee surgery (medial meniscus tear and lateral meniscus tear). She was unable to go back to work for weeks.
