What Happened?
On January 22, 2016, Veronica was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 4th Avenue and East 4th Street in Mount Vernon, NY, when an inattentive driver slammed directly into the rear of her car. The collision sent a sudden burst of pressure that coerced Veronica’s body – jolting her head forward uncontrollably. The whiplash she experienced as a result of the crash gave rise to an instant and acute sting that permeated throughout Veronica’s neck and into her lower spine. The immediate pain was so overwhelming that Veronica had to be transferred by ambulance to the emergency room at Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital.
“I’m so thankful that I was in a bigger car. The car was completely totaled! The accident could have been much worse.” – Veronica
In the days following her accident, Veronica’s condition worsened significantly. She recounted several episodes where sharp pain rolled down her neck like waves, into her lower spine. She also remembered the intolerable bursts of pain that triggered headaches that thrashed and throbbed intermittently for weeks. Veronica unquestionably suffered unpleasant and unremitting pain unnecessarily during the course of her recovery. She also endured agonizing spurts where piercing pain shot down her shoulders through her upper extremities – creating a weakened, numbing sensation in her hands and fingers. The accident left Veronica unable to walk, stand, sleep, negotiate stairs, bend, lift, shop and do laundry.
Veronica connected with The Case Handler team through her husband, who tragically passed away during her case proceedings. Suddenly, as if recuperating from her physical injuries wasn’t hard enough, Veronica was forced to bear the loss of her beloved husband. In a time of perilous uncertainty and brooding sorrow, our team made sure that Veronica had the love and support she needed during this very difficult time. “Their empathy and the pouring out of love and concern that they show is unsurpassed,” said Veronica. “No money can ever compensate or suffice for the hope Adam, Sandra, Ava and the rest of the team instilled in me. From the depths of my heart, I’d like to thank them for everything they did for me and my family.”
